Artists Statement - I'm passionate about handmade objects, they represent an investment in individualism and celebrate humanity. Each of my vessels are individually handmade by traditional methods of wheel throwing or hand built construction, this means each piece is unique and slightly different, just like each of us. Like children as the vessels are made by my hands they form a family and display family characteristics, they sit well together or stand perfectly alone. I feel the most beautiful aspect of a handmade bowl is how comfortable they are to hold in your hand.
I use various techniques for decorating my pieces: hand drawing, screen printing, japanese tissue, mishima, sgraffito and etching. All pieces are food safe and have been glazed with a clear glossy glaze.
Currently I'm working on two new series of work, I haven't named them yet although one is an extension of the House and Garden Series, the other has to do with our sense of place. Stay tuned to my blog for photographs of the new work and studio happenings.
